As part of our CSR Initiatives, Cape EMS Berhad, in collaboration with SJK (C) Kulai 1 and Green Earth Society, has successfully completed the EM Bokashi Mudball Movement — a community outreach project aimed at restoring the ecosystem of Skudai River through a combination of education, collaboration, and environmental action.

The EM Bokashi Mudball initiative, originally developed in Japan, uses Effective Microorganisms (EM) technology to revitalize polluted waterways. Made from a mixture of soil, clay, and fermented organic matter (bokashi), these mudballs are dried for two weeks before being tossed into rivers to break down organic waste, suppress harmful algae, improve water quality, and reduce odours, ultimately helping to restore aquatic life and biodiversity.

Over three interactive sessions, members of the ESG Initiatives Committee and Cape EMS employees worked together with Primary 6 students and their teachers, successfully producing an impressive total of 10,290 EM Bokashi mudballs — surpassing the original target of 10,000. The sessions not only provided valuable hands-on experience in sustainable practices but also actively inspired environmental awareness, responsibility, and stewardship among students through participation and teamwork.
 
The final phase of this initiative reached a meaningful conclusion with the tossing of the mudballs at Port Memancing. Packed into carton boxes ahead of the event, the mudballs were then strategically distributed along the river - hoping to maximize the reach and positive environmental impact across the waterway. Over time, these mudballs will naturally break down organic matter, reduce odours, and help restore the river's ecological balance.
 
This meaningful initiative demonstrates how collective action, driven by commitment and community involvement, can turn sustainability goals into measurable and impactful outcomes. By combining corporate commitment, community engagement, and environmental education, Cape EMS reaffirms its ongoing commitment to promoting a culture rooted in sustainability — nurturing environmental stewardship to ensure a cleaner, healthier and sustainable tomorrow for all!
